VH1′S EMMY AWARD-WINNING “ROCK DOCS” FRANCHISE ACQUIRES NEW INSTALLMENTS INCLUDING DAVE GROHL- DIRECTED “SOUND CITY” AND “PEARL JAM TWENTY,” DIRECTED BY CAMERON CROWE
Santa Monica, CA (August 13, 2013) – VH1’s Emmy Award-winning “Rock Doc” franchise is returning with a new slate of feature-length music documentaries from a wide range of genres, styles and perspectives. Upcoming installments include “Sound City,” a documentary featuring interviews from the legendary producers and musicians of the famed Sound City recording studio and “Pearl Jam Twenty,” a film chronicling the band’s roller-coaster ride to stardom.
“Sound City,” set to premiere on August 17, 2013 at 10 pm on VH1 and VH1 Classic, is directed by Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters), and tells the story of the recording studio that produced timeless classics from some of history’s greatest rock ‘n roll artists. It’s a story that ends with Sound City shutting its doors in 2011, another victim of the digital revolution. Featuring interviews from artists such as Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, Neil Young, and Dave himself, “Sound City” takes a hard look at the human element of music and the lost art of analog recording.
“Pearl Jam Twenty,” directed by Cameron Crowe, premieres October 12, 2013 at 10 pm on VH1, VH1 Classic and Palladia. The film chronicles the years leading up to the band’s formation, the chaos that ensued during their rise to mega-stardom and their conscious decision to step back from center stage, away from the bright lights of fame. Told in big themes and bold colors with blistering sound, the film is carved from over 1,200 hours of rarely-seen and never-before seen footage spanning the band’s career. Pearl Jam Twenty is the definitive portrait of Pearl Jam: part concert film, part intimate insider-hang, part testimonial to the power of music and uncompromising artists.
VH1’s Emmy Award-winning Rock Docs are feature-length documentaries that tell unique stories of artists and music from a wide range of genres, styles and musical perspectives.
“Sound City” is directed and executive produced by Dave Grohl. “Pearl Jam 20” is directed and produced by Cameron Crowe and executive produced by Michele Anthony. Overseeing the Rock Docs franchise for VH1 are Warren Cohen, Stephen Mintz, Brad Abramson and Shelly Tatro.
