NEW YORK, NY (July 22, 2013) — DoSomething.org and VH1 today announced that this year’s Do Something Awards (#DSAwards) will be hosted by actress Sophia Bush along with celebrity presenters Malin Akerman, Lucy Hale, Cynthia Nixon, Russell Simmons and Aisha Tyler.  This year’s high-energy show will honor celebrities Patrick Dempsey, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Jennifer Hudson, LL COOL J and Kelly Osbourne for being amazing social change leaders, along with five “do-gooders,” 25 and under, who are in the trenches, creating substantial change in our world. 

In addition to honoring celebrities for their work to inspire others, and a night filled with great musical performances, one young “do-er” (age 25 and under) will receive a grand prize of $100,000 for their cause and the four other nominees will receive a $10,000 community grant. VH1’s own Jason Dundas returns to help highlight the great work of these amazing Do Something nominees. This is the largest and most prestigious prize in the world for young people and social change.

This year’s five nominees have gone above and beyond to make a difference addressing important issues. Nominees include Sasha Fisher (Spark MicroGrants); Daniel Maree (Million Hoodies Movement for Justice); Jillian Mourning (All We Want is LOVE – Liberation of Victims Everywhere); Lorella Praeli (United We Dream); and Ben Simon (Food Recovery Network).

For the first time ever, users can vote for their favorite Do Something Awards nominees via SMS pre-show and LIVE in-show.

About Jason Dundas

Jason Dundas is an Australian born International TV host, who hit the pop culture scene in Sydney at age 23, as host of MTV’s TRL. He continued adding on-camera gigs to his résumé during this three-year stint with MTV, including co-hosting the Australian MTV Video Music Awards, appearing in the movie Fool’s Gold, and being honored as CLEO Bachelor of the Year. Adding to his growing list of accolades, Jason was awarded Man of Style at the GQ Men of the Year awards in Sydney the same year.  Now considered one of the hardest-working Australian men in show business, in 2011 Jason launched into the US TV scene, debuting as co-host of Vh1’s BIG MORNING BUZZ LIVE, broadcasted daily from Times Square.  Jason continues to stay true to his crowd-pleaser persona, juggling his VH1 presenter role, red-carpet duties at award shows and hosting events from New York to LA and Sydney.
